Named for the woman who taught us to bake by feel
Growing up, my great-grandmother filled the kitchen with bread and pizza from Italy, no timers, no measuring cups, just tradition. That love of slow, living dough is why we preserve heritage starters from San Francisco, Italian, Alaska, and beyond.
A gift they’ll actually use
Our gift-ready San Francisco starter arrives beautifully packaged, with the activation guide and warranty included. Long shelf life means they can bake on their schedule, birthdays, holidays, or just because.
Quick answers
Dehydrated or liquid, which should I get?
Dehydrated is our most popular: lightweight, long shelf life, and activates in about 5 days. Liquid arrives alive and is usually ready to bake with in 1–2 days. International orders almost always do better with dehydrated.
How long does activation take?
About 5 days, some report as quick as 2 days with our strong starters. You’ll add flour and water in simple steps until your starter is bubbly and doubling. Full instructions ship with every order.
What if it doesn’t work in my kitchen?
You’re covered. Every order includes a free 1-year replacement warranty, plus you can message me anytime. I usually reply within minutes to a few hours
Ready when you are
Your starter arrives dehydrated and patient. Activate this weekend, or six months from now. Whenever you’re ready to bake, it’ll be waiting.
